El observante

Yes, I have been a watcher for at least 4 years. Since I came to the United States, I realize I can only observe and learn. There were so many new things, new demands, new surroundings, new faces, new bed! So many things to observe and to learn!
However, this last year I have become a more active 'watcher'. The whole new politic environment generated by the next elections has gone through my bones, and, somehow, it has make of myself a more oppinionated individual.
Listening to the radio, watching the TV, talking to natives have helped me to feel more active in this new society. New for me, of course!
I have finally learned about politics and the election process in the USA. I even know now about US history! It could sound silly, but it is not. I really was a simple 'watcher' before. Nowadays, I can sit with others and I can have opinion and understand others' opinions. There are fewer names now that I don't recognize. There are fewer jokes, that I don't get immediately.
Is this assimilation? Or simply a survival method? I don't know. Maybe both. They may be actually the same thing. However, I still miss things from home. I still miss to feel that I belong to a place. I think I was so used to know everything about my area, that even after 5 years, I'm still unable to adjust! Is this feeling always present? I hope, no!
I hope I can feel as a native. I hope I can accept that I don't need to know everything around to feel confident and finally feel at home.
I hope I can stop being just a 'watcher' and become a 'participant'.
